We always say our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do and we really mean it; whether it is taking on a fundraising initiative to raise money for CRPS, providing therapy and support to those who need it or getting the word out there to spread awareness about CRPS, we would not be able to do any of this without our team who selflessly donate their time to make it happen.
We want you to know that we see you! So if you have a Burning Nights CRPS Support volunteer in mind who goes over and beyond what is expected of them, going the extra mile and not afraid to get stuck in, let’s celebrate them together. Let’s cheer them on as they give us their best and let’s let them know they really matter.
So here’s how you do this.
Last year, we inaugurated the Victoria Ellen Williams Award for Outstanding Contribution, named after one of our valued volunteers, the late Victoria Ellen Williams, or Vicky as she was better known as in her inner circles. Vicky was a member of our Virtual Befriending Team and, in no time, won hearts for her genuine kindness and tireless efforts to help others. Her 3 hour befriending call to a client on Boxing Day 2022 is a testament to her selfless and compassionate nature.
Our team at Burning Nights CRPS was deeply saddened to hear of Vicky’s untimely passing. Spurred by a desire to keep her memory alive, we inaugurated the annual Victoria Ellen Williams Award in her name, to honour her legacy and as a means to recognise and applaud the extraordinary work our volunteers do on a daily basis.
Vicky was a wonderful, funny, kind and beautiful soul who really cared for the people she supported and befriended. She was so full of light and life that she will most definitely be missed. - Victoria Abbott-Fleming MBE, Founder & Chair
The Award is presented at our annual CRPS Patient & Carer Information Day, which this year will be held on Saturday, November 16th 2024 at the Hilton Northampton. You can sign up for your free ticket via the CRPS Events page.
Last year’s award was presented by Vicky’s parents who were incredibly touched by this thoughtful gesture to honour their daughter’s memory. The award was given to Danielle, a fellow volunteer Befriender, for her hard work and dedication to the charity. Danielle, who also lives with CRPS, knows what it is like to be in the trenches and turned her own struggles into something positive by giving back to the community that held her in her moment of darkness. Well done Danielle, you’ve set a fantastic example for the rest of our team!
So if you have a colleague in mind, like Danielle, let us know via the nomination form and we’d be happy to give them the recognition they deserve. Please note that volunteers can nominate any other volunteer but not themselves. Nominations will remain open until Monday, October 14th 2024. More details about the nomination process, including terms and conditions and eligibility criteria can be found here.
So now that you know how this works, what are you waiting for? Let’s get nominating!
Good luck to all our volunteers and a big well done again on everything you do. Together, we can and will build a better future together for our CRPS warriors.
