Remember us in your Will

Include the gift of hope in your Will and create a lasting legacy through a cause that you care about

When it comes to writing your Will, you might ask yourself "What has been important in my life?" and "What will I be remembered for?" One way to make a meaningful impact is by leaving a gift to charity and supporting a cause that means a lot to you. Perhaps you have a loved one who lives with CRPS or you might be a sufferer yourself. Knowing the pain and isolation that can come with a diagnosis of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, you can be involved in bringing change to the lives of CRPS patients and their families.

Every penny donated to Burning Nights CRPS Support is used to provide our vital volunteer-led support services, including our CRPS Counselling Service and Virtual Befriending Service, as well as increasing understanding and awareness of the condition with the public, healthcare, and legal professionals.

After you have taken care of your loved ones, please consider Burning Nights CRPS Support.

Leaving a gift in your Will doesn’t mean that your family and friends are left behind. We understand that you want to look after them. But if you are able to leave a legacy to Burning Nights CRPS Support once your loved ones are taken care of, you will be making a difference to people like Ciaran and his mum Lyndsey. Following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, Ciaran began suffering symptoms of PTSD, which triggered his CRPS. However, it took two years to receive this diagnosis, during which time he struggled with trauma and anxiety, as well as agonising pain.

"I am truly grateful for finding this support as the NHS have no real idea about this condition. I know this as I sat with 15 specialists and they still couldn’t give me the same information or the same support I have received from Burning Nights CRPS Support." – Lyndsey, Mother of CRPS patient

Anything that you can give will go towards support for those affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and raising awareness of the condition to bring hope for the future of CRPS sufferers and their families.

Unite with us in creating a brighter future for people affected by CRPS.

Our mission is simple. We will promote and protect the health of CRPS patients, their families and carers through information, advice and support, including raising awareness of CRPS and assisting research into the condition.

The Impact of Your Gift

In 2022, a legacy gift funded the 8th Annual National CRPS Conference, held in Edinburgh. Without the generosity of this donation, we would not have been able to bring together CRPS patients, their loved ones and caregivers with healthcare providers and legal professionals, providing them with up-to-date information about what is going on in the world of CRPS. We are so grateful for the opportunity to remember the life of someone special and to the family for their strength and support in carrying out their loved one’s wishes.

In addition to campaigning to bring attention to the lack of information and support for CRPS sufferers, Burning Nights CRPS Support provides a number of free and confidential services and resources. We strongly believe that there is life after diagnosis and we are here for anyone affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

How do I leave a gift in my Will?

If you already have a Will – Ask a qualified professional, such as a solicitor, to add an amendment known as a codicil, which can allow you to make a small change to your will without having to rewrite it. Larger changes are likely to mean that you will need to make a new will.

If you need to make a Will – Although it may seem daunting, making a Will is the best way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after you have passed. Speak to a solicitor who can help you to draw up your Will. We advise that your Will is drafted by a qualified professional, such as a solicitor, as they are regulated by the law.

Find a solicitor on the Law Society website. We cannot recommend a specific solicitor to help draw up your will, but the Law Society can help you to find the details of solicitors in your area.

Choose what type of gift you would like to leave to Burning Nights CRPS Support. See next FAQ for more information.

Let us know your intentions. Although you are by no means obliged to inform us if you have chosen to leave a gift in your Will, we would love the opportunity to say thank you, whatever the size or shape your gift may take.

What are the different types of gifts I can leave in my Will?

Residuary legacy: A percentage of your estate after all other gifts and expenses have been paid. By specifying a percentage, rather than a specific sum, ensures that the gift remains proportionate to what you have left to your loved ones.

Pecuniary legacy / Specific sum: A gift of a fixed amount of money. Due to inflation, the value of this type of gift will lose value over time and may end up less than you intended.

Specific legacy: A gift of a particular named item. For example property, shares, or a personal possession such as jewellery, furniture, or a painting.

Why do you need my gift?

In the UK alone, almost 300 people are are newly diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) every week. That's nearly 15,000 new cases every year, before taking into account those who haven't yet received a diagnosis. It can take anywhere from weeks, months, to years to receive a diagnosis, all while living with the constant pain. But that is just the beginning. The limited research into and awareness of CRPS, it's causes and treatment mean that adapting to life with this debilitating condition is an overwhelming and complex journey for all involved.

Although we cannot offer a cure, we will do everything we can to support those faced with a diagnosis of CRPS as well as their families, friends and caregivers.

Burning Nights CRPS Support charity is completely self-funding and we do not receive government or NHS funding. We rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters, fundraisers and corporate partners. 100% donations received are used to support the Charity's work to promote the interests of those affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and help us offer our range of services, including our CRPS Counselling Service, Virtual Befriending Service, Support Helpline, and regular Support Groups.

Your gift will ensure that we can continue to provide these key services and reach those who need them most. People like Anna, a CRPS patient who accessed the CRPS Counselling Service...

"The service has genuinely changed my life for the better. For the first time since being diagnosed with CRPS I felt truly listened to and understood. I would recommend to anyone. The amount of counselling is amazing … My counsellor set me up for life with the skills and understanding she taught me. I can't verbalise how much good the service has done for me."
