Hello, my name is Georgina Thompson, and I am a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of East London. As part of my training, I am doing research into young people’s experiences of discrimination when help-seeking for chronic pain. In order to investigate this further, I am interested in interviewing individuals to hear more about their experiences when seeking help and support for their chronic pain within healthcare settings, with the hopes to improve our understanding of people’s experiences when it comes to chronic pain. This in turn could hopefully improve our healthcare systems’ responses to those with chronic pain, and potentially improve patient outcomes, such as being seen quicker and treated earlier for pain symptoms.
I am recruiting anyone aged 18-24 who lives in the UK, has experience of chronic pain (this is any pain that lasts more than 3 months, and can be medically diagnosed or self-diagnosed), and has sought help for their pain from any healthcare service such as GP, hospital clinic etc.
I will be inviting people to take part in an interview with me online via Microsoft Teams, which will take approximately 1 hour. In this interview, I will ask questions about your experiences of help-seeking for your chronic pain. You will have the option to enter into a prize draw for one of four £25 LoveToShop vouchers, as a thank you for your participation. Interviews will be recorded and transcribed in order to analyse as part of the research, but will be anonymised and held securely until completion of the study.
